Jason
Resto
The following is an article about a young man who
was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. Jason Resto
has been a long-time roller hockey player from the
Virginia area who started playing ice hockey not too
long ago. We all know that the roller hockey family
is very tight-knit one. The XIHL wants you to know
about Jason and hope that you send him your best wishes
and any financial assistance you can.
The following information can also be found Jason's
team web site, the Kootenai Colts of Northern Idaho
at http://www.kootenaicolts.com/
Today we received notice that Jason will have to spend
at least 1 month here in the hospital. His parents
will remain here with him as he goes through the first
of four stages of chemotherapy. Once the first stage
is complete and his body goes into remission they
will then attempt to fly him home to Virginia to complete
the process. Doctors have told the family that this
will be a 3 year process to rid his body of the cancer.
You can send emails to Jason via Terry Beck. My
email address is
t_beck1@msn.com.
All emails will be printed and delivered to Jason
by myself or one of the team staff daily. Thank you
again for your support and prays for Jason and his
family.
The Kootenai Colts and the Resto family would greatly
appreciate your thoughts and prayers for Colts' defenseman
Jason Resto.
Resto, an 18-year old defenseman from Virginia, was
acquired by the Colts at the trade deadline. Resto
played in two games for the Colts, picking up two
penalty minutes. This past Tuesday, Jason woke during
the evening, experiencing severe chest pains and body
aches and was taken to Kootenai Medical Center in
Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. It was there that Jason was
diagnosed with an as yet unknown form of leukemia,
which, at last report,
was spreading rapidly through his body. His condition
is currently
unstable and he is unable to travel home to Virginia
to see his own doctors.
Jason's parents arrived from Virginia Thursday night
and will be with him while he undergoes chemotherapy
treatments in an attempt to stabilize his condition
enough to be able to return home, although his father
will possibly have to leave for home earlier, to return
to work.
The Kootenai Colts organization is in the process
of setting up a bank account for donations to assist
the Resto's with expenses occured during this very
trying time for their family. Please keep checking
the Kootenai Colts website for updated information
in the next several days. In the meantime, cards and
letters of support for Jason and his family can be
sent to him in care of the Kootenai Colts Hockey Club,
P.O. Box 2293, Post Falls, Idaho 83877-2293. All other
inquiries can be emailed directly to Colts' Director
of Operations Terry Beck, at t_beck1@msn.com . Terry
will answer each and every email sent.
In the fast-paced, often hectic world of junior hockey,
with the
excitement of wins and disapointment of losses, the
focus on moving players to the next level and what-not,
the very real human element of the sport is often
lost in the shuffle. All else greatly pales in comparison
to the fight being faced by Jason Resto and his family.
Jason was so excited to be a part of the Colts organization
and we all, staff, management and players, are proud
he is with us.
Please send your thoughts, prayers and best wishes
to Jason and his family. They, as well as the Colts
organization will appreciate them very much. This
is an opportunity to show how, when one of our "own"
goes down, that no matter your team affiliation, we,
as one great big extended hockey family, rally in
support.
Thank you and God's blessings on Jason, his family
and you all.
